Dr. William Schumacher retired from full-time practice in 2015.
It has been over 40 years since Dr. Schumacher made the move to start his own veterinary practice in Las Cruces. Dr. Schumacher and his wife, Kay, were the only employees at first. Business slowly grew along with the Las Cruces community and eventually they were able to hire their first employee. Now, there are fifteen employees, including three Veterinarians, one of whom is Dr. Schumacher’s daughter, Dr. Kyle Schumacher.
Dr. Kyle was born and raised in the Mesilla Valley. She played local high school and club softball and then competed at the collegiate level while attending Trinity University for her undergrduate work. Dr. Kyle graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University in 2005 and joined the practice shortly thereafter. Dr. Kyle has professional interests in equine reproduction and dentistry. She also enjoys treating canine athletes and working dogs and is certified in Canine Rehabilitation Therapy (CCRT). She also recently began performing acupuncture and is working towards CVAT certification. Dr. Kyle began competing in the sport of canine agility during veterinary school and has been highly sucessful, running with three different dogs in the National Finals. Dr. Kyle and her husband live with six [very hyper] Border Collies--Wendy, Rio, Hazzard, Mayhem, Stomp, and Kit--and one laid-back Doberman--Luxa.
Dr. Lauren Short has been with the practice since 2010 when she graduated from Oklahoma State College of Veterinary Medicine. She was born and raised in the small town of Guthrie Oklahoma and is the oldest of nine children. Dr. Short grew up hunting, fishing and shooting competition skeet and began working in a veterinary clinic at the early age of 13. It has been her passion ever since. She enjoys mixed animal medicine and surgery and has a special interest in small animal dentistry. Dr. Short has been responsible for spearheading our new Dental Program which has already yielded great benefits to many of our patients. She also handles most of our exotic patients. In her spare time Dr. Short enjoying hiking, 4 wheeling in her jeep and hanging out with her 2 dogs.
Dr. Stout grew up on the ranches around Silver City New Mexico. After Graduating from NMSU he attended Veterinary College at Tufts Universtiy in Boston, graduating in 1987. He worked 10 years as a Smoke Jumper for the USFS during summer breaks. For the past 27 years he has been working mostly on cattle. He enjoys outdoor sports and packing his mules into the Gila Wilderness. Dr. Stout and his wife Jan, have been married for 33 years and have two adult daughters and two grandchildren.
Dr. Cassandra Hoisington is a 2016 graduate from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She grew up in the state of Washington with her mother and older brother since the age of 3. Dr. Hoisington loves the outdoors, and spends most of her free time hiking and exploring with her dog, Treu (pictured). She also loves to stay active with sports such as volleyball and softball, which she has been participating in since grade school. Dr. Hoisington has a passion for working with animals of all shapes and sizes (except tarantulas and large birds) with a special interest in surgery and mixed animal medicine. She moved down to the beautiful town of Las Cruces in May of 2016 along with her pup to join our team at Schumacher Animal Clinic. Within 6 months, she realized she was meant to be a desert rat, and had already acquired her first stray kitty, Groot
Dr. Anderson grew up in the Manzano mountains, just outside of Albuquerque New Mexico. After graduating from NMSU she attended Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2017. After four years in the Pacific Northwest, she was excited to return to New Mexico, land of the sunshine. Dr. Anderson loves hiking, camping, yoga, and most things outdoors. She loves all creatures great and small and is excited to start her career in veterinary medicine.
